Newton North High School

In the fall of 2010 I spent four months with Newton North High School.  While under the supervision of Sandra Truant I developed lessons plans that fit within the schools curriculum while addressing the Massachusetts Visual Arts Standards.

The range of students varied from Art Minor 1 courses that met twice a week; to the Art Major 3 course which met four times a week and was comprised of mainly juniors with plans to further study visual arts after graduation.

While at NNHS,  I learned to trust myself as an independent teacher.  My classroom management and presence developed in conjunction with rapport and respect with and from my students.   Being at Newton provided me with the opportunity to witness first hand what I am capable of as a teacher.   Students trusted themselves with their own creative choices while learning and developing techniques.   The first time seeing a students face when they execute a new process correctly and receive results more than they  could have imagined is the most satisfying aspect of being a teacher.

Newton also presented me with challenges.  Facing them with the guidance of my adivsor I was able to educate myself further and turn my struggles into successes.  I left NNHS with strong experience in teaching multiple grade and skill levels within a high school.
