In January 2012 I began my time at the New Art Center, community art center of Newton. At the NAC I am working with an intimate group of students ranging from fourth to sixth grade. The course I currently teach is a basic sewing class with emphasis on individual expression. I develop lessons around a variety of functional projects which allow students to learn and master proper techniques.
Teaching in a setting where the classroom is not only mine comes with its own set of difficulties. In order to combat this I have created multiple visual aids that are displayed every week. The room is set up properly upon the students arrival to maximize efficiency and time spent learning and creating.
